We pride ourselves on the quality of our luxurious handmade soaps, skincare & soy candles, which
are created with only the finest ingredients, traditional methods, and a generous sprinkle of Cornishness.
Sapooni is a family-run business, where traditional values are central to our ethos.
A Family Business
We are a family business, with three generations working in different roles. We’ve extended our Sapooni family to include Nanny, cousins, godparents & in-laws, spouses, friends and neighbours.
We even have a Sapooni cat- “Mr P” (who adores prawns, log fires and laps.)
Our products are handmade, which means a real person measures, weighs, mixes, stirs, pours, cuts, labels and wraps each and every product we make. (And Nanny is Chief Labeller!)
“Sapooni” means “Soap” in Greek. We think it’s a great name for a company which started in Cyprus with a single bar of soap. We couldn’t stay away from Cornwall for long, & came home in 2013. Today, we are really blessed to have a stunning view of the Tamar River from our workshops. We have stayed true to our original philosophy of using only the finest ingredients, and we still use a splash of Cyprus olive oil in some of our soaps. We also use a range of Cornish ingredients, with Tamar Valley honey and Cornish herbs, flowers, sea salt & seaweed added to select formulations. We believe in supporting other Cornish businesses; our boxes are made in Cornwall, we use West Country suppliers wherever possible, & we are working in partnership with other local companies to produce a range bursting with even more of the finest things Cornwall has to offer. The word is spreading about just how gorgeous our products are, and Sapooni products are being stocked in an ever-increasing number of outlets. We’ve won several Awards this year, too…
It started with a bar of soap…
Our story began over 10 years ago when Jo & her family went on holiday to the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus, and returned with a souvenir- a bar of olive oil soap. This soap turned out to be quite awful;it was a drab grey colour, had no fragrance, wouldn’t lather, and turned into a mushy slimy mess in the shower. Jo decided she could do better. She went on courses to learn the art of soap-making, & began making soap as a hobby. When the family moved to Cyprus from their native Cornwall a couple of years later, she started making very special olive oil soaps using Virgin olive oil collected from Agabrios at the local olive mill- pressed from the olives grown around her home on the edge of the lovely Akamas peninsula. A few bars became a few more, & a business was born.

More about Mr P, the Sapooni cat…
Adored by us all, Mr P (real name Tonto, other nicknames include Pops, Tommy Pops and Poppies) was an abandoned Cyprus feral kitten, whose mother left him & his 4 siblings with us. We re-homed the others & kept Mr P. Although he’s had a tough life & has asthma, he’s always ready to purr. He doesn’t help much with the soap-making but he’s always around at tea-time.
